Top 10 places in Vienna

Vienna, the capital of Austria, is located in the east of the country on the Danube. Its artistic and intellectual heritage has been shaped by residents such as Mozart, Beethoven and Sigmund Freud. The city is also known for its imperial palaces such as Schönbrunn Palace or Belvedere Palace.

Belvedere Palace

As mentioned earlier, there are several imperial palaces in Vienna. One of my two favorites is the Belvedere Palace. Although it is located outside of the city center (see map), it is still worth visiting this palace.

The Belvedere Palace is divided into two parts: the "Upper Belvedere" and the "Lower Belvedere". The two parts are separated by a huge garden. In the "Upper Belvedere" is a permanent collection with mostly Austrian works of art. In the "Lower Belvedere" changing exhibitions of different artists from different art epochs are shown.

Tickets for the "Upper" or "Lower Belvedere" can be purchased individually or together. The ticket for the "Upper Belvedere" costs 16€, for the "Lower Belvedere" 14€. For a combined ticket you pay 24€. For children and teenagers up to and including 18 years the entrance is even free.

Schönbrunn Palace

Another palace, which is also recommended, is the Schönbrunn Palace. This palace is also located outside the city center (see map), but is easily accessible by public transport.

There you can visit the Schönbrunn Palace or admire the huge palace garden.

In the palace you can get a taste of how Maria Theresa or Empress Elisabeth, also known as Sisi, once resided. There are a lot of offers from group tickets to Sisi deluxe tickets, the best is to get an overview yourself.

The palace gardens, which do not require a ticket to be purchased, offer a lot of sights: The Palm House, the Gloriette, the Labyrinth, the Rose Garden and much more can be visited here.

Palmhouse

This unusual restaurant is located on the edge of the Burggarten in the middle of Vienna. It is advisable to book in advance on the homepage, because the Palm House is quite famous.

There you can enjoy breakfast, lunch or dinner. There is also a wide range of different types of wine. Of course, you can also order cocktails or regular drinks.

You should expect that this will not be your cheapest restaurant visit. For example, a Coca Cola (0,33L) costs 3,90€ or a Wiener Schnitzel 22,00€.

Nevertheless, the visit is definitely worth it, as this restaurant is a unique experience.

Hofburg

The Vienna Hofburg is one of the largest palace complexes in the world. Today, it includes numerous museums with outstanding collections, the Spanish Riding School, a congress center, the seat of the Austrian Federal President, as well as Heldenplatz, which is steeped in history.

Sünnhof Passage

This pedestrian mall with colorful umbrellas is definitely an eye-catcher. Perfect for strolling through the alleys of Vienna on a relaxing afternoon.

Vienna Prater

The Vienna Prater is a large park that offers many different rides. It is also home to one of the most famous Viennese landmarks: the Giant Ferris Wheel from 1897.

A visit to the fairground is definitely recommended. Here, both - old and young - can enjoy a nice evening. The trip can be rounded off with a visit to a beer garden, of which there are enough at the leisure area.

The Butterfly House

The Butterfly House is located in the rear part of the Palm House and thus also on the Castle Garden (see map). Here you can observe about 500 butterflies all year round.

Tickets are divided into many age groups - it's best to get an overview yourself on the homepage. For example, a ticket for adults costs 7€, for pupils and students up to 26 years 6€.

Austrian National Library

The Austrian National Library is a public library located in the middle of Vienna (see map).

Since you usually pass by the National Library anyway, it's certainly a nice place to pay a quick visit.

Vienna Palace of Justice

The Palace of Justice, which is open to the public, still houses the offices of the Supreme Court, the General Procurator's Office, the Higher Regional Court, the Provincial Court and the Office of the Attorney General.

Much more important for you, however, is the magnificent assembly hall, where you can certainly snap a nice photo.

Aurora rooftop bar

Finally, you can spend an evening at the Aurora rooftop bar. There you can have cocktails, but also dinner. It is recommended to book in advance on the homepage, because the bar is quite popular.
